Picture this: You’re sitting on your couch, tea in one hand and phone in the other, seamlessly communicating with your General Practitioner (GP). You could request prescriptions, view lab results, and follow up with a message to your GP, all from the comfort of your couch. Providing this frictionless health care experience is at the heart of Webtools.
Founded by Brett O’Donnell, Webtools specialises in developing and scaling digital tools that have real impact. Webtools started as specialist software developers for the energy sector before selling that side of the business and moving into healthcare technology. Harry Hawke, CEO, joined the team five years ago when Webtools started their healthcare journey. “Since then, we’ve worked on a number of healthcare initiatives including a project with the Ministry of Health (now Te Whatu Ora) to get real-time COVID-19 updates out to over 250,000 healthcare workers,”
Harry explained.
Two years ago, Webtools started an exciting software development. “In light of COVID-19, consumers expect to be able to do more remotely and that includes their health care,” Harry said. “We want healthcare providers to be able to leverage the latest software technology to provide effective digital health services.”
That idea turned into Centrik, a software development platform that enables Webtools to create branded applications for healthcare providers and their patients. These apps sync with electronic health records, creating a frictionless experience for patients, clinicians, and health service providers. Patients can book appointments, request prescriptions, message their GP and have virtual consultations from their phones.
Launched to market this year, Centrik has been widely adopted by several large healthcare providers, general practice and pharmacy groups, including Green Cross Health, Better Health Group, Phoenix Health Hub, and Waitaha Primary Health. Centrik currently connects to primary care facilities via Medtech’s ALEX® platform. The next step is to raise further capital to continue growing the platform and scale it across Australasia and into the UK. “We’ve got an exciting trajectory here in New Zealand and some great opportunities in Australia too, and a key part of achieving that is securing a funding round next year,” Harry said. “James and the team at Leech & Partners have been a big part of getting us to where we are now and helping us figure out what that next round of funding might look like.”
From helping Brett O’Donnell exit the energy side of the business to launching Centrik to market this year, James Nell, Director, and his team of accountants have been working with Webtools since the beginning. “They help us with everything from everyday tax compliance and annual accounts to strategic business advice and forecasting,” Harry said. “Leech & Partners are integral to our success. The team understands where we’re at, what we’re trying to achieve, and they know how to best support us in realising our goals.”
